Sabine Woods: A Peaceful Dog Friendly Walk in Groton MA
If you are looking for a peaceful and scenic place to walk, Sabine Woods in Groton, Massachusetts is one of those hidden gems that keeps you coming back. This beautiful wildlife sanctuary is a favorite spot for walking the dog, and it offers a calm, easy trail that works well for both kids and adults.
Sabine Woods is known for its flat, well marked paths, making it an ideal choice for a relaxed outing. While it used to be an off leash area, dogs now need to stay leashed, so plan accordingly when you visit.

Exploring Sabine Woods
One of my favorite ways to explore Sabine Woods is to bear right from the entrance, cross the open field, and continue until you reach the river. From there, a peaceful trail runs along the banks of the Nashua River.
This stretch of Sabine Woods is especially beautiful. Trees lean over the water, creating a canopy that filters the sunlight. In the spring, the sound of tree frogs from nearby vernal pools adds to the experience and makes the walk feel even more connected to nature.

What You Will See Along the Trail
As you continue through Sabine Woods, you will come across statues and small monuments tucked into the landscape. These thoughtful details give the area a nature preserve feel while still keeping it accessible and easy to explore.
The main public access trail eventually leads toward the Groton Boat House. This is a great turnaround point, and it typically takes about 25 minutes to reach from the start before heading back the same way.

Tips for Visiting Sabine Woods with Your Dog
Sabine Woods is a popular spot, especially for dog owners. On warmer days, many dogs head down to the river to cool off, which can be a highlight of the walk.
Because the trail is well used, it is a good idea to be mindful if your dog prefers space from others. Keeping a close eye on your surroundings will help make the experience enjoyable for everyone.
Where to Eat Nearby
After your walk through Sabine Woods, it is worth stopping by Salt and Light Cafe on Main Street. It is a great place to grab a fresh salad or a quick bite before heading home.
