We had the pleasure of not only checking out the LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Boston but also interviewing a master builder! We are a LEGO obsessed family and the boys dream of becoming a master builder one day so they were SO excited.
When you purchase tickets online, you will be given a half hour window of when you arrive. This helps ensure that you are not waiting in a long line and avoids over crowding. LEGOLAND Dicovery Center is designed for kids ages 3-10.
You will be brought into a movie room where you can learn about how LEGOs are made and create your own mini figure.
Next, you will go on a ride called Kingdom Quest to help rescue a princess by zapping the bad guys with a laser.
When you disembark the ride, walk through miniland to see a LEGO replica of the city of Boston. It is amazing to see what took builders 8 months to build!
In the main room, there are several attractions the kids can try out. Merlin’s Apprentice ride is really fun. You pedal a bike to make it lift off of the ground. Test your LEGO making skills by making a race car and racing down the test track. There is even an earthquake zone where you can see how strong your building design is and if it could withstand a tremor.
There is a LEGO Duplo farm for the smaller children and a LEGO friends section. My boys love running through the giant LEGO City playground equipped with climbing walls and slides (be sure to bring socks).
The 4D cinema was really fun. It even snowed on us!
This year, the Great LEGO Race VR Experience opened. For this virtual reality experience, we got buckled up in our own little pod and had a VR headset over our eyes. We had a 360 degree view as we raced through track that had lots of twists and turns. My son loved it so much, he begged to go back on again. You have to be at least 6 years of age to ride and it costs $5. It was totally worth it!
In the LEGO Master Builder Academy, the kids got to help build a giant mosaic. They would have stayed there all day if they could.
Meeting a Master Builder at LEGOLAND Boston
The real highlight for us was meeting a real Master Builder. Megan was so kind to let my kids sneak into her office to snoop at her latest project and ask her all of their burning questions. She could barely answer them before they were asking about something else. She had been designing a model of the Wang Center which will be displayed there when it is finished. What a cool job! They loved asking her how many times she has stepped on a LEGO in bare feet.
Outside food is not allowed due to allergy restrictions, but they have a great Coffee Shop which brews Starbucks coffee and serves reasonably priced sandwiches.
The kids go nuts every time those elevator doors open up into the retail shop. LEGOs keep our kids so busy we joke that we are hiring LEGO to babysit. Worth every penny!
The LEGO Movie: The Second Part just came out. Go see how much trouble Emmet gets himself and be sure to visit the LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Boston where EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!!! Here are the highlights from our day:
