Jay Peak Ski Resort Review: The Ultimate Family Ski Trip in Vermont

Location: Jay, Vermont

If you are planning a family ski getaway in Vermont, let me introduce you to one of our new favorite winter destinations. Our recent trip to Jay Peak Ski Resort was everything we hoped for and more. With fantastic skiing, comfortable accommodations, a massive indoor water park, and nonstop activities for kids, it delivered incredible value for a February break trip.

We traveled with several other families, about 25 people in total, which made Jay Peak Ski Resort the perfect choice. One of the biggest advantages here is the range of lodging options. You can choose from traditional hotel rooms to multi bedroom condos, making it easy for multiple families to travel together while staying in spaces that fit their needs.

Staying at Hotel Jay

Our friends opted for condos, but we chose Hotel Jay for convenience, and it was absolutely the right call for our family.

Hotel Jay is home to the indoor water park, which meant our kids could walk there in their bathing suits without even stepping outside. We could also walk straight out to the lifts in the morning, while our friends in the condos had to drive over and park.

Our suite was really spacious and worked perfectly for our family of five. It included a full kitchen, living room, separate bedroom, and a cozy fireplace. There was even a mudroom area specifically for ski gear, which made a huge difference when managing boots, helmets, and allllll the layers.

A Murphy bed folded down from the wall and the sofa converted into a sleeper, so everyone had a comfortable place to sleep. The space felt clean, modern, and thoughtfully designed, especially for skiers.

We also loved the on site general store just steps away. We stocked up on breakfast and lunch essentials and saved a significant amount of money by returning to our room for meals instead of eating out every time. As the daughter of a mom who always packed bologna sandwiches for us, I know this would have made her extremely proud.

At night, we ordered pizza and gathered in the large family room space located beside the pizzeria. With such a big group, having a place where the kids could run around and play while the adults relaxed was awesome.

Another perk of staying in the hotel at Jay Peak Ski Resort was having our own ski locker. We could store all of our gear slope-side instead of dragging it back to the room each day.

Skiing at Jay Peak Ski Resort

Now let’s talk about the skiing.

Our group ranged from beginners to expert skiers, and Jay Peak Ski Resort truly had something for everyone. The terrain variety impressed us. Wide beginner runs gave newer skiers the confidence they needed, while more advanced skiers tackled steeper trails and glades.

My kids absolutely fell in love with the glade trails. I can’t count how many times we went down Bushwacker and Kokomo. They had the best time weaving through the trees and joking about getting lost in the woods. It felt adventurous, while still being manageable and fun.

We visited during February break and were fully prepared for long lift lines. To our surprise, we never waited more than five minutes. That alone made the trip feel relaxed and enjoyable. We spent more time skiing and less time standing around in line, which is a huge win during peak season.

The Water Park at Jay Peak

One of the biggest draws of Jay Peak Ski Resort is the indoor water park, and it absolutely lives up to the hype.

It is enormous.

After skiing, the kids headed straight there every afternoon. They floated along the lazy river, raced down the epic water slides, and soaked in the outdoor hot tub while snow fell around them. It was the perfect way to warm up after a cold day on the mountain.

On our second night, we actually ate dinner inside the water park because we simply could not drag the kids away. That tells you everything you need to know.

Having such a massive indoor attraction makes Jay Peak Ski Resort especially appealing for families. New England weather can be unpredictable. If you get rain or extreme cold, you still have an entire indoor world of fun waiting for you.

More Than Just Skiing

Another thing we loved about Jay Peak Ski Resort is the variety of additional activities. There is a full movie theater that constantly plays family-friendly films, plus an arcade and a rock climbing wall. These options gave us great backup plans and kept everyone entertained beyond the slopes.

Every staff member we encountered was kind and helpful. At one point, I realized our kitchen needed an extra pot. I called down, and a maintenance staff member personally found one and delivered it to our room. That level of service does not go unnoticed.

Is Jay Peak Worth It?

1000%, yes.

The value at Jay Peak Ski Resort is unmatched, especially for families. During February break, we booked a package that worked out to about $1,000 dollars per night. That included our hotel stay, lift tickets for 5, and access to the water park.

The next day, we visited Stowe Mountain Resort and paid well over that amount for lift tickets alone. That comparison made it very clear how strong the value is at Jay Peak. And in all honesty, we enjoyed the skiing at Jay Peak so much better.

For families looking to maximize both fun and budget, Jay Peak Ski Resort delivers.

Final Thoughts

We were only there for two nights and honestly wished we had stayed at least one more. Our group is already talking about making this an annual tradition. The families in the condos did say they wished they were in the hotel, so we will try to book earlier next year.

As a New England family that loves winter adventures, we would rank Jay Peak Ski Resort right alongside Smugglers Notch as one of the two best destinations for a family ski trip in the region. The combination of excellent terrain, family friendly lodging, indoor water park access, and nonstop activities makes it incredibly hard to beat.

If you are planning your next ski vacation and want a resort that truly caters to families, Jay Peak Ski Resort should absolutely be on your list.
