Hyatt Regency Chicago Review: A Fantastic Stay for Families
If you’re planning a family trip to the Windy City, this Hyatt Regency Chicago review will help you decide whether this iconic hotel is the right fit. As the largest hotel in Chicago and fresh off a $150 million renovation, the Hyatt Regency Chicago feels brand new—from the updated guest rooms to the modern common spaces.

Location of the Hyatt Regency
The location truly couldn’t be better. Set right along the Chicago River, the hotel is steps from Michigan Avenue and within walking distance to many of the city’s top attractions.
Our room overlooked the river, and my kids spent so much time in a chair pulled up to the window watching boats and city life pass by below. With views like these, the hotel is a standout pick for travelers seeking a convenient downtown base.

Room Options for Families
One thing I want to address in this Hyatt Regency Chicago review is room configuration—because traveling as a family of five can be tricky. We typically book a room with two queens and either a sleeper sofa or a rollaway bed.
It’s important to note that The Hyatt Regency Chicago does not offer rollaways, and none of the rooms include sleeper sofas. Instead, they offer what I would call a sette, which I originally wasn’t sure anyone could actually sleep on. To ensure everyone would be comfortable, we decided to upgrade to the Millennium Suite—and honestly, this suite made the trip!
Millennium Suite
For families needing room to spread out, the Millennium Suite is a game changer. This 700-square-foot suite features sleek, modern finishes and incredible views of the Chicago River and downtown skyline. There’s a large living and dining area with a table that seats eight, a bathroom, and an optional fold-down Murphy bed.

The separate bedroom has a king bed, lounge chair, 65” TV, and a second bathroom with an illuminated smart mirror.
With five people getting ready at once, the convenience of two bathrooms was huge. The Murphy bed was perfect for my older kids, and my younger son ended up sleeping on the sofa—which is larger than it appears in photos. Housekeeping provided bedding, and he slept very comfortably. For families in the predicament that I was in: yes, the sofa works well as a bed!

This part of my Hyatt Regency Chicago review cannot be emphasized enough—the space and layout made our stay feel effortless.
Dining at the Hyatt Regency
Each morning, we grabbed breakfast at American Craft Kitchen & Bar, located right in the lobby. It was casual, family friendly, and the food was excellent—exactly what you want before a full day exploring Chicago. In the evenings, my husband and I would sneak down to BIG Bar for a nightcap. The whole property feels modern, refreshed, and thoughtfully updated.
Another convenience we loved during our stay was Market Chicago, located right off the lobby. It’s open day and night, making it perfect for families who need flexibility. You can grab a freshly brewed Starbucks coffee in the morning or pick up gourmet sandwiches, fresh fruit, smoothies, pastries, and other quick bites throughout the day. Whether we needed a fast breakfast before exploring the city or a late-night snack after a long day, Market Chicago made it easy.
Some things to note
- There is no pool—but honestly, with everything there is to do in Chicago, we didn’t miss it. (You can check out my full guide to the best things to do in Chicago with kids here.)
- The elevators are impressively fast. Even during busy hours, we never had to wait long.
- Despite the scale of the property, it still feels warm and welcoming.
Final Thoughts
To wrap up this Hyatt Regency Chicago review: we absolutely loved our stay and would book the Hyatt Regency Chicago again in a heartbeat. The renovation makes the hotel feel fresh and upscale, the location is unbeatable, and upgrading to a suite made all the difference for our family of five. If you’re visiting Chicago and want comfort, convenience, and incredible views, this hotel is a fantastic choice.
