The construction for the Homewood Suites in Berlin, MA began in 2018. Each time we drove past, my kids would anxiously watch to see the progress they had made. They would shout “the walls are up!” Once the building was complete and the lights were on inside, they continued to guess that they were doing. “I bet they are decorating.”
If you can’t guess already, we live in a small town. We don’t even have a grocery store. The hotel coming to town was big news. My kids couldn’t wait to stay there. Seeing as it was 3 minutes from our house, I wasn’t sure that would be happening. When we were invited to check out the property, the boys were through the roof with excitement. So we packed our bags and started the long commute down the street.
*Disclosure: we received a free stay, but all opinions are my own.
When we entered the Homewood Suites, I was pleasantly surprised. I guess I expected the cookie cutter chain hotel entrance. This lobby had high ceilings filled with natural light. There was a sitting area beside a stone fireplace and a smiling receptionist ready to greet us.
The Homewood Suites by Hilton are designed for extended stays. The suites have everything you would need to cook meals down to the cutlery. There is a full-sized refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, and twin burner stove.
Our suite was just perfect for our family of five. A dining area is located beside the fully-equipped kitchen. The living room had a television and a pull out sofa bed if needed.
A second room had two queen size beds, another television, and a desk. It was really nice to be able to close the door between the rooms, because we have a little girl who goes to bed early and an older boy who is a night owl.
I love when hotels have bathrooms that are separate from the sink area. That way, if one child is using the bathroom, the others can still access the sink to brush their teeth. It is really practical for larger families.
After we checked in, the kids cared about one thing. The pool. The pool is open by reservation, because only one family group is allowed in there at a time due to covid. Each time slot is for an hour. So we had the pool from 4-5 and again the next morning from 10-11. The pool fills up quickly, so make your reservations sooner than later. There is also a very nice fitness center beside the pool as well as an outdoor basketball court.
After the pool, the kids enjoyed a hot bath to warm up. We had pizza delivered and Dad was hugely impressed by the beer selection offered in the lobby. We had Be Hoppy by Wormtown and a Switchback. My kids love when there is a little corner market in a lobby. It is so fun for them to run down in their slippers to get a treat.
A free continental breakfast is included in your stay and right now it is grab and go style. We had bagels and fresh pastries, yogurt and hard boiled eggs. Outside of a pandemic, guests will enjoy a hot breakfast in the dining room.
I would highly recommend doing a staycation at the Homewood Suites by Hilton. The kids had a blast swimming in the pool and having a family movie night. We didn’t even have to get a pet sitter, because I could just shoot home when needed.
Here is a walk-through tour of the hotel and our room-
I have had friends stay at the hotel while their house was under construction and another when the town lost power. The Homewood Suites makes a great place for a birthday party because the kids can use the pool and have a slumber party.
Whether you are traveling from out of town, have family visiting or just need to get out of the house, keep Homewood Suites by Hilton in mind. Their suites have everything you could possibly need.
