Julie Booras opened Heart and Stone Jewelry because she wanted to make a difference in people’s lives by creating unforgettable, meaningful jewelry. The personalized handcrafted creations she makes will become heirlooms in your family, sure to be handed down from generation to generation.
She works with metal clay which is a combination of water, binders, and small particles of either silver, gold or alloys of copper and bronze. These clays are molded by hand into a desired shape then heated in a kiln or torch to remove the binder and fuse the metal powder into a solid form.
As soon as I heard about Heart and Stone Jewelry, I wanted to check it out. I love meaningful jewelry and have been searching for something I could engrave my children’s name on. What really drew me to Julie’s work was her thumbprint charms. They are so unique and I have never seen anything like them. You can have a thumbprint done of a child, grandparent or any loved one. This is a keepsake that would be sure to stay in the family.
I spent an afternoon in Julie’s studio making a custom piece for a friend who recently lost someone very close to her. I wanted to give her something special that would last longer than a bouquet of flowers, so I chose a charm and had her name engraved on the back.
Heart and Stone’s Giving is Good collection donates 25% of each sale to various charities. She has created charms for Cystic Fibrosis Research, International Rescue Committee, Autism Awareness and many others. We are even thinking of collaborating on making a charm for International Animal Rescue!
Julie is now doing jewelry making parties called Ladies Night Out. This is where a group of friends get together and after a quick lesson on metal clay, they can design and make their own silver stamped pendant. What a fun way to create something special while sipping wine in the comfort of your home! The hostess gets a nice gift as well.
Julie’s work shows true craftsmanship. Her talent shines through with each and every piece she makes. I have a shopping list for my husband that is a mile long. My favorites are the North Star charm, the affirmation charms and the swivel charm. When Lizzie is a little bit older, I will get her the heart circle charm. I love how the bundles of charms look and they are so fun to mix and match.
Heart and Stone Jewelry was recently featured on Chronicle. This holiday season, skip the big box stores and support small businesses. A custom piece from Heart and Stone would be cherished by the loved ones in your life.
