Grand Hyatt Baha Mar Review: The Ultimate Family Resort in the Bahamas

Location: Nassau, Bahamas

People rave about Baha Mar not only for how family-friendly it is, but also for how incredible the Grand Hyatt is for a points redemption. So we flew to the Bahamas to fact-check it andโ€ฆ drum rollโ€ฆ everyone was correct.

In this Grand Hyatt Baha Mar review, Iโ€™m breaking down everything you need to know โ€” from using Hyatt points and airport transfers to the room setup, activities and dining.

Grab a coffee. Letโ€™s dive in.

Understanding the Baha Mar Resort

Before we get into the details of this Grand Hyatt Baha Mar review, itโ€™s important to understand the layout.

Baha Mar is a massive beachfront campus made up of three hotels:

  • Grand Hyatt Baha Mar (largest, most family-friendly)
  • Rosewood Baha Mar (luxury, quieter)
  • SLS Baha Mar (trendier, more nightlife-focused)

The Grand Hyatt sits in the center in two large towers, with the other two hotels flanking each side. If youโ€™re traveling with kids, the Grand Hyatt is the sweet spot.

Booking with Points: Is It a Good Redemption?

Letโ€™s talk numbers.

We booked the Grand Hyatt for 35,000 Hyatt points per night, which is an outstanding redemption considering rooms often go for $800โ€“$1,000+ per night depending on the season. From a value perspective, this was absolutely worth it โ€” especially for a family.

If youโ€™re planning to book with points, it is important to book as early as possible as award availability disappears quickly. The more flexible you can be with your dates, the better.

We wanted to go around Christmas, but the flights sky rocketed. The kids ended up skipping one day of school in the end, because traveling outside of the school vacation dates saved us $2k in flights.

How to get to the Baha Mar

The resort is only about 15 minutes from Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS), which is wonderful after a travel day with kids. However, the hotelโ€™s round-trip transfer quote? $286!

That felt excessive.

You can take a taxi for around $25โ€“$40 each way depending on your party size and amount of luggage. But I personally donโ€™t love arriving in a new country with my kids and having to negotiate rates curbside.

We used Xenaโ€™s Taxi Service, which was recommended to us, and it was perfect. We paid $75 round trip for a spacious SUV, and everything was seamless. Someone was waiting for us, and there was zero stress.

For families, that peace of mind is worth it.

Check-In & First Impressions

We arrived mid-afternoon, and our room wasnโ€™t ready yet (it was a busy weekend). The front desk stored our luggage, and we headed straight to the beach. Coming from a New England winter, we were READY for sun.

Pro tip: If you arrive before check-in, pack swimsuits in a separate bag so you can jump right into vacation mode.

Our room was ready shortly after 3:00 PM.

The Wearable Room Key & Cashless Convenience

One of the smartest features at Baha Mar โ€” especially when traveling with kids โ€” is the bracelet system.

Upon check-in, you receive waterproof bracelets that function as your room key and are linked directly to your credit card. You can charge meals, drinks, and activities with a simple tap of your wrist. That means no carrying wallets or room cards to the pool or beach.

The Rooms at Grand Hyatt Baha Mar

For this Grand Hyatt Baha Mar review, letโ€™s talk honestly about the rooms.

Our standard room had two queen sized beds and a Juliet balcony that looked out over the sprawling property and ocean in the distance.

The room was newly renovated and felt fresh and modern. The standout? The oversized rain shower. Truly spa-level.

Now โ€” the family of five situation.

The Grand Hyatt allowed us to have five guests in a standard room, but Iโ€™ll be honest: itโ€™s tight.

There are no rollaway beds allowed. My son slept on the small settee in the room. Itโ€™s not technically designed for sleeping, but we pushed the ottoman up against it and made it work.

If youโ€™re a family of five, it’s doable if your fifth person is small. Otherwise, I would consider a suite if budget or points allow.

The Pools at Baha Mar

The pool complex at Baha Mar is next-level. The Grand Hyatt alone features six different pools, giving people plenty of space to spread out. Some are adults-only, while others have shallow entry areas that are perfect for younger kids.

Our favorite was the Deanโ€™s Blue Holeโ€“inspired pool, complete with a 15-foot jumping cliff, waterfall, and a hidden grotto. Inside the grotto, glass walls look directly into the resortโ€™s aquarium, so you can watch sharks and sea turtles glide by while you swim.

Pool loungers can fill up quickly during peak times, so getting out early helps. You can book loungers and cabanas in advance if you prefer.

How to Access the SLS Pool

Hereโ€™s a little insider trick thatโ€™s worth knowing.

While Grand Hyatt guests can dine at all the Baha Mar restaurants, you normally cannot use the SLS or Rosewood pools unless youโ€™re staying there. And honestly? The SLS had our favorite pool on the property โ€” a stunning spillover infinity pool that looks straight out over the ocean.

However, if you rent a cabana or lounger at the SLS pool, you gain access for the day.

Even better, the cost of the rental goes toward your food and beverage bill. So instead of thinking of it as an added expense, just plan to eat lunch and order drinks there. It essentially offsets itself.

The Beach at Baha Mar

The beach is absolutely stunning with that real deal Caribbean turquoise.

The water is calm, clear, and swimmable โ€” ideal for kids. There are plenty of loungers, so we never had trouble finding a place to sit.

There are little huts where you can order food, fun drinks or ice cream.

The Baha Bay Water Park

One of the biggest perks of staying at the Grand Hyatt โ€” and something that truly elevates this Grand Hyatt Baha Mar review โ€” is complimentary access to Baha Bay Water Park.

This is not a tiny splash pad situation. Itโ€™s a full-scale water park with high-speed water slides, a lazy river, a wave pool, surf simulator, and a dedicated kidsโ€™ splash zone.

There are plenty of lounge chairs for parents who prefer to relax while the kids run wild, and cabanas are available to rent if you want a more private setup. It feels like a separate attraction, but the convenience of walking there from your hotel room was great.

Dining at Baha Mar

One of the biggest surprises in this Grand Hyatt Baha Mar review? The food.

Resort food can be hit or miss. Here, itโ€™s legitimately good, albeit pricey.

Whatโ€™s fantastic is that guests can dine at restaurants across the entire Baha Mar property, which means that you will have 45 restaurants to choose from. I wrote a guide to our favorite restaurants at the Baha Mar you can read here.

Because you can dine across all three hotels, the variety is incredible. From upscale dining at Rosewood to casual poolside bites, there is something for everyone.

Make your dining reservations as far in advance as possible. I tried booking just two weeks before our trip and several of the restaurants we were most excited about were already completely full.

Also, prepare yourself for a little sticker shock. The Bahamas is expensive in general, and the majority of our vacation budget went toward dining.

One saving grace for families? Kids 5 and under eat free at several restaurants, which definitely helps. And trust me โ€” pack snacks. It makes a big difference between meals.

One more important thing to know when dining at Baha Mar: most restaurants automatically include a service charge on the bill, and that charge covers the tip.

We didnโ€™t realize this at first and were adding an additional 20% on top of the service charge โ€” which meant we were tipping closer to 35%. Before you sign your check, take a second to read the receipt carefully.

Consider this your friendly public service announcement from someone who learned the hard way.

Why The Baha Mar Is Perfect for Families with Young Kids

If Iโ€™m being honest, I wish I had discovered Baha Mar when my kids were younger. It is such an easy, stress-free place to travel with little ones.

You can drink the water, everyone speaks English, and the entire property feels incredibly safe and secure. As a parent, that peace of mind is priceless.

The layout is ideal for young kids. They can rotate from the pool to the beach to the water park on repeat without ever getting in a car or leaving the property. Everything is walkable, contained, and designed for fun.

One family we met there has come back five years in a row.

Activities for Families

As much as I wish we were the kind of family who could sit on the beach all day, we just arenโ€™t. We need activities โ€” and thankfully, Baha Mar delivers in a big way.

Each morning kicks off with the 9:00 a.m. flamingo parade, and itโ€™s surprisingly entertaining. Watching these bright pink birds strut through the resort, security detail in tow, cracked me up each time. For an additional fee, you can even book a flamingo meet-and-greet experience.

At The Sanctuary, families can observe sea turtles, stingrays, nurse sharks, and other marine life up close, which adds a bit of an educational element to all the fun.

Thereโ€™s also the Explorers Kids Club for children ages 3โ€“12, offering supervised activities if parents want a little downtime.

My kids loved the arcade and the nightly fountain show that was set to music.

We booked a day-long excursion that departed directly from the Baha Mar dock, which made the logistics incredibly easy. Beyond that, there are water sports, tennis courts, mini golf, shopping, cooking classes, and even a massive casino for adults.

The entire property feels like its own little city where thereโ€™s always something happening. During the five days we stayed there, we truly never once felt bored.

Final Thoughts: Is the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar Worth It?

After spending several days here, this Grand Hyatt Baha Mar review comes down to one simple answer: yes โ€” especially if youโ€™re using Hyatt points. The Bahamas is expensive, so to have the room covered made all the difference in the world.

Between the incredible beach, the massive pool complex, full-scale water park access, and the endless dining options, this resort removes so much of the friction that can come with family travel. Youโ€™re not worrying about transportation, or constantly planning the next activity. Itโ€™s all right there.

What surprised me most is how perfect this resort is for families with young kids. Safe, walkable, English-speaking, drinkable water, kids 5 and under eating free โ€” itโ€™s the kind of international trip that doesnโ€™t feel overwhelming. Kids can rotate from the pool to the beach to the water park on repeat, and parents can actually relax.

Is it big? Yes. Is it lively? Absolutely. But if youโ€™re looking for a high-value points redemption that delivers on luxury, the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar is hard to beat.

And honestly? I only wish we had discovered it sooner.
