Begin your walk at La Catedral, one of the most iconic landmarks in the Gothic Quarter Barcelona. Step inside the cloisters to say hello to the 13 white geese that have lived here since medieval times. There is often a line, but it moves quickly, and entry is free during certain hours.

2. Walk to Plaça de Sant Felip Neri

Next, make your way to Plaça de Sant Felip Neri. The walk itself is part of the experience, as you pass through one of the most picturesque alleyways in the Gothic Quarter Barcelona. The quiet square opens up suddenly and feels worlds away from the busy streets. Look closely and you will still see shrapnel marks on the church walls from a bombing in 1939.

3. Stop at Be Chocolat

Take a break at Be Chocolat for some incredible handmade truffles. This small shop is easy to miss, but it is worth seeking out. If you are traveling with kids, this is a guaranteed highlight of your Gothic Quarter Barcelona walk.

Trust me- you will go back for more.

4. Visit Basílica de Santa Maria del Pi

Continue zig zagging through the alleyways until you reach Basílica de Santa Maria del Pi. The large rose window is stunning and worth pausing for.

If the truffles weren’t enough, grab a gelato in Giovanni Gelateria Italiano on the way. I may or may not have done both.

5. Explore Plaça Reial

Walk parallel to La Rambla until you arrive at Plaça Reial. This lively square, lined with palm trees, is one of the most recognizable spots in the Gothic Quarter Barcelona. The Gaudí designed lampposts add a special touch, and the plaza is just as beautiful at night as it is during the day. We stopped at Ocaña for refreshments, and it was the perfect place to sit and take it all in.

6. Head to Plaça de Sant Jaume and Plaça del Rei

From Plaça Reial, continue toward Plaça de Sant Jaume, then on to Plaça del Rei. It may feel like you have reached a dead end, but keep going. As you turn the corner, you will find impressive Roman ruins tucked into the heart of the Gothic Quarter Barcelona.

Wandering through the Gothic Quarter Barcelona was my favorite way to spend time in the city. The alleyways are full of charm, with flower filled balconies, small shops, and unexpected details around every corner. It is the kind of place where you will want to slow down, explore without a plan, and let the experience unfold naturally.

During my four days in Barcelona, I found myself returning to the Gothic Quarter Barcelona again and again. There is always something new to discover, whether it is a hidden courtyard, a local shop, or just a quiet moment away from the crowds.
