Lately, my husband and I have been prioritizing experiences over things. For Christmas, we asked for a Lark Hotels gift card, and it ended up being one of our favorite gifts. We immediately booked a getaway to the Field Guide Lodge, and it did not disappoint.

Lark Hotels has a reputation for creating unique boutique stays in prime locations, and this was our second time staying at one of their properties. After a great experience at their Portsmouth location, we were excited to see what the Field Guide Lodge had to offer.

I loved the design of the Field Guide Lodge. There are cozy nooks perfect for relaxing with a drink, a coffee bar tucked under the stairs, a lively bar area, and even shuffleboard for a fun touch.

It feels like a space that works just as well for couples as it does for groups of friends.

Our Room at The Field Guide Lodge

We stayed in a King Suite in the Trail House building, and the space was ideal for a relaxing getaway. The suite opened into a comfortable living area with a couch, fireplace, and a private patio. It felt more like a small apartment than a hotel room.

The bedroom featured a king-sized bed and a second television, which made it easy to fully unwind after a day of skiing.

The bathroom was one of my favorite parts. There was a large soaking tub with a tree stump side table, which added a fun rustic touch. The hotel also provided bath salts, which were exactly what we needed after being out in the cold all day.

I also loved the small details, like locally made soaps and sweet treats in the room. It is clear that the Field Guide Lodge makes an effort to support small businesses and create a more thoughtful guest experience.

Amenities and Location

The Field Guide Lodge offers a hot tub that is available year round and can be reserved by texting the front desk. In the warmer months, there is also an outdoor pool, making this a great option for both winter and summer stays.

One of the biggest advantages of staying at the Field Guide Lodge is its location. While it is not quite within walking distance to the center of Stowe village, it is closer to the mountain. This makes a huge difference when you are trying to avoid the heavy traffic after a day on the slopes.

Another perk is that some of Stowe’s best casual dining spots are right across the street. We loved being able to walk to The Bagel in the morning for a quick breakfast. For dinner, The Backyard was a fun spot with great tacos and creative drinks.

Things to Know Before You Book

The only downside we experienced during our stay at the Field Guide Lodge was noise from above. On our second night, we could clearly hear the guests in the room upstairs walking around late into the night.

It would not stop us from staying again, but next time we would request a top floor room or bring a sound machine to help with sleep.

Why Field Guide Lodge is Worth It

The Field Guide Lodge is the kind of place that makes a quick getaway feel special. It is stylish without feeling overdone, comfortable without being boring, and thoughtfully designed in a way that enhances your entire stay.

This trip was also a reminder of how important it is to take time away as a couple. Getting away is not always easy, especially when you are juggling kids, pets, and schedules, but it is always worth it.
