Nestled in the woods of Jamaica lies our favorite falls in Vermont. It is a serene spot to spend on a sunny day with a safe swimming hole and a beautiful waterfall as a backdrop.
I have been visiting Pikes Falls since I was a kid. From Jamaica center, turn up Pikes Falls Road and follow the windy road along the river. The falls are not marked, but they aren’t hard to find. The only landmark I knew to look for back then was a fish mailbox, but these days, you know you are there when you see several cars parked along the road since it has been discovered by more and more people. We have been there on days where the street was lined with cars, but you can always spread out enough that you have your own space. On this magical day, we shared the falls with only one other family.
You can’t see Pikes Falls from the road. On your left hand side you will see a trail headed into the woods. It is a short but steep hike down to the bottom of the falls. You can’t really spread out a blanket, but there are several shady areas to set your things down and rocks make great seating.
Pike’s Falls is a 20 foot cascading waterfall but the best part is the perfect swimming hole that is created at the base. It is a such a great place for kids to swim and play. The beach area is shallow and declines gradually.
Be aware that there are no bathrooms at the falls and no lifeguard on duty.
We love climbing up on the rocks and jumping off, but it can be slippery so I would advice your family to wear water shoes. There is also a natural water slide that is fun to go down.
The mountain water is fresh and clean. You can walk along the lower falls or walk along a trail that leads up to the top of the falls.
Pikes Falls in Vermont is the perfect spot to spend a day with family. Between the safe, clean area for kids to swim and the waterfall backdrop, it doesn’t get much better. Click here for directions.

We also love stopping at Honeypies on the way home, which is a really cool retro burger joint down the street that has amazing milkshakes. If you are looking for a longer hike, check out Hamilton Falls which is also in Jamaica.
