Don’t leave home without these 13 things:
1. BJ Bag by Scout-
Not only does this bag come in a variety of colors and cute patterns, but it is made of wipe-clean fabric. There are plenty of pockets to keep gear organized and easy to find. It is the perfect size to keep your dog’s things together. Click here to purchase.
2. Microfiber Towel-
This super absorbent microfiber towel is great to keep handy. My dog is a swimmer and will find water wherever we go. If there isn’t a river, he is happy to lie down in the dirtiest mud puddle he can find. This towel has saved me on many occasions. The ends are folded over to create mitts that help dry off the underbelly. The paw print on the towel help you to not confuse it with any of your own. Click here to purchase.
3. Lupine leash-
These are simply the best leashes on the market. They have a large variety of patterns and each leash comes with an iron-clad replacement policy. If your product ever gets damaged, they will send you a new one… even if your dog chews it! Click here to purchase.
4. Rugged Quilted Dog Blanket by L.L. Bean-
Not only does this help keep my car clean, it is great to bring into a hotel room to lay across to bed and keep the bedding clean. It comes in a variety of sizes and colors so you are sure to find one that fits your needs. It is so easy to throw in the wash when needed. I have had mine for years and it still looks brand new. 5. Kurgo Collaps-A-Bowl-
This is a must for every packing list. I love this little bowl because it is easy to clean and it folds up flat so it’s easy to tuck into a back pocket if needed. Click here to purchase.
6. Kurgo Kibble Carrier to store dog food-
Zip lock bags rip and are a waste of plastic. The Kurgo Kibble Carrier can hold 5 pounds (about 20 cups) of food and keep it perfectly fresh. The zipper pouch will hold the collaps-a-bowl. Click here to purchase.
7. Wet food for a special treat-
My dog can get really anxious and sometimes won’t eat much while we are traveling. I started bringing along a can of wet food, which he normally doesn’t get at home. He can’t resist gobbling it up. Try the Merrick Wingaling. I have yet to find a dog who doesn’t love it. Click here to purchase.
8. Poop Bags-
I recently found these great biodegradable pet waste bags by Biobag. This is a great alternative to plastic which is harmful for the environment. Many places are becoming more and more dog friendly. We want to keep it that way, so be responsible and clean up after your pup. Click here to purchase.
9. Doggy Ditty-
I love this little ditty bag! It acts as a leash, but them becomes a cross body bag when it’s time to hit the trails. It’s just large enough to hold the essentials like my phone, car keys and poop bags. It is a simple but clever design that always comes in handy. Click here to purchase.
10. Earth Animal No-hide Chews-
It took a middle of the night emergency room visit to teach me the hard way that dogs can not digest rawhide. My dog loves to chew, so I searched for a safe alternative. Earth Animal chews are made of gelatin that is healthy and easily digestible. These help keep him busy when he is alone in a hotel room or on a long drive. Click here to purchase.
11. KONG Classic Tog Toy-
Kongs are such great toys for dogs. They are great for dog that like to chew and virtually indestructible. You can fill the inside of the Kong with different treats such as peanut butter and even freeze it so that it takes longer for them to get all the goodness out. I pop mine in the dishwasher when it gets dirty. It’s versatile and keeps dogs busy for a long time. Click here to purchase.
12. Pet ID Tag-
The single most important thing you can do to keep your dogs safe while traveling is make sure they wear an ID tag. Things happen… dogs get spooked or a door gets left open. I once had a dog jump out of a car window when driving through the desert. If they are in an unfamiliar area, it will be hard for them to find their way home. The best thing you can do to ensure that you are reunited is to have them wear an ID tag. Click here to purchase.
My dogs are also micro-chipped in case a tag gets ripped off, but having the information readily available makes it easier for the person who finds your dog to get in contact with you without having to find a vet with a scanner.
13. Proof of vaccinations-
Be sure to carry a copy of your dog’s vaccination records, especially rabies. If a dog get bitten by a wild animal or gets in a tussle with another dog, you will need to prove that your dog is up to date. Some hotels may require the paperwork to stay there. If you plan to kennel your dog over vacation, they may have other requirements such a distemper or kennel cough vaccinations. Just call in advance and see what they need.
