When to visit the sunflower field
The sunflower farm is only open for 7-10 days each year starting around the end of August. Your best bet is to follow the Colby Farm Facebook page for up to date information. They will post daily updates on the sunflower field.
You can also join their email list so you will be notified when the sunflower field opens.
The weather can really affect the length of the season. For example, a heavy rain can take down all of the petals. Be sure to check their page before setting off for the farm.
Tips for visiting the Colby Sunflower Farm
The sunflower field is open from 9:00- 6:00.
Avoid weekends at all costs. Since it is such a short season, there are a lot of people rushing in all at once to see the blooms. While the weekdays can still be busy, the field is huge and there is plenty of room to spread out.
There is a $10 parking fee, but there are no other fees involved in your visit. The parking fee is cash only.
The sunflower field is dog friendly, so you can brig your pups along for the fun. Just keep them on a leash and pick up after them.
Please note that you can not pick the sunflowers, but they do sell arrangements in the farm store.
There are port-a-potties by the farm store if needed.
Visiting the Colby Farm Stand
Check out the farm store while you are there. All of their locally sourced goods are free-range, hormone free and organic. Some of the items they sell are milk, eggs, cheeses, breads, pies, cookies, whoopie pies, ice cream, maple syrup, chocolate, cold drinks, fruits, berries and vegetables.
The corn harvest usually lines up with the sunflower field opening, so I would suggest going home with some corn on the cobb!
The Colby Farm is a local farm doing things the right way, so support them in any way you can.
