Nothings gets me in the Christmas mood like a beautiful light display. While searching for the best Christmas lights near me, I discovered Christmas on Runway and it quickly became a new tradition.
A family in Lancaster, Massachusetts is providing a festive light display that is worthy of Rockefeller Center, and it is free for all to enjoy.
The BEST Christmas Lights Near Me
“Christmas on Runaway” started their first animated display in 2015 when the family lived in Bolton. They noticed families stopping to watch their lights and the sound of kids singing and laughing from their cars motivated them to keep adding to their display. They have now moved to Lancaster and their light show has become a local phenomenon.
Since they live in a residential neighborhood, there are some guidelines they ask people to follow so that everyone has a good experience and their neighbors are not affected.
The address of the house is 24 Runaway Brook Rd in Lancaster, MA. It is a cul-de-sac, so they ask that you enter from Fitch Farm Road. That means if you are coming from Clinton center, you will come up Chace Hill Road, bypass Runaway Brook Rd and turn left on Fitch Farm Road. Runaway Brook will be your first left.
You will see a line of cars waiting to reach the house. The circuit of songs lasts about a half hour and as cars finish, they will roll forward. The line moves along quickly.
When you get in line, switch your headlights to parking lights. They also ask that you stay to the right so you don’t block local traffic and be careful not to block any driveways.
I would suggest bringing some hot cocoa for the kids and even popping some popcorn for the show. It will also give the kids something to do if there is a wait.
Tune your radio to 90.1 for the full effect because the lights are synchronized to the music. We loved The Polar Express and when they played music from the Troll movie, Lizzie almost jumped through the sun roof.
The light display is so impressive and I can’t even imagine the work that went into creating it. I admit I am a total sap, but I had full body chills.
The light show runs from 6-10 pm. If the weather is really bad, they will cancel. Just look at their Facebook page for updates. If the line gets long, they may reduce the song list.
While the light show is free, there is a donation bin by the driveway for the Joseph and Leslie Carr Foundation which helps feed families in need during the holidays. Please give what you can.
