When I was in the anger stage of grief, I did something that I will regret for the rest of my life. I went into my email, searched Jonathan's name, did a select all, delete.⁠

I didn't want to think about him, because it was too painful. And I was so angry. But all of his words were just gone with one click and I could never get them back.⁠
⁠
One day I was visiting with his mom and she had found one of his writing assignments where he talked about our friendship. I treasure this wrinkled piece of notebook paper because it is all that I have left. ⁠

His last words to me were this. "Things aren't the same when you're away and in kind of a crazy place. Be safe and explore always. Visit a buddist temple if you can......awesome. Love you forever. Jonathan Tyler Gilmour of Hollis, NH."

Literally no one on earth could make me laugh as hard as Jonathan. That kind of laughter that made cripple over with stomach pains. I so miss having that laughter in my life. I wish he could have met my kids. They would have loved him. So hard to think of all the amazing things he would have done with his life.

Jonathan and I were attached at the hip. We worked together, had lunch together every day and then hung out on the weekends. When I told him that I was going to move to Scotland, he decided to join me. ⁠

We had no idea that this was the last picture that would be taken of us. The last time we hugged and laughed together... both of us setting off on our own adventures, the whole world ahead of us. I was off to India to study bears and he was off to Greece to study dolphins. But he never made it. And I returned home alone. ⁠

Somewhere swimming in the Mediterranean Sea there is a dolphin named after him. He even has his own character in a video game. And when I was in India, they offered to name the next bear they rescued after me and I said I would rather name the bear Jonathan. It was very unlikely that they would rescue another bear. We had most of them in the sanctuary.⁠

But one morning, I heard a boy calling "Madame! Jonathan is here!" And since I was still thick of the denial stage of grief, for a minute I actually thought it was him. I knew he was ok, he was just trying to find me! But when I saw the men, they were carrying a crate with a tiny bear cub inside. ⁠
⁠
And so there is a bear in India who also shares his name. His legacy lives on in all corners of the world in the animals he so loved.

This book brings me right back to my childhood so it was really fun to bring Lizzie. The statue is located near the corner of Beacon Street and Charles Street. I love that people dress up the ducklings throughout the year. ⁠
