Every time I arrived in a new city, I felt like such a tourist with my backpack, camera bag and travel guide in hand. I needed to pair down and organize. The biggest issue I ran into was having a safe place to put my DSLR camera. This is when I started researching options and purse-style camera bags were just what I was looking for. There are a lot of camera bags on the market and they all vary in size, quality and look. I have tried a few and these are my favorite three bags on the market. I will show you their main features as well as how I pack them up with my gear. Here is a list of the best camera bags for women.
1. ONA Bowery Bag
This is currently my favorite bag to carry. I have it in Field Tan Waxed Canvas. It is so beautiful to look at, it’s comfortable to wear and it is the perfect size. It holds my DSLR camera with the lens attached. There is a padded divider that you can adjust to the size you need. It can hold a second lens, but I keep my GoPro there. There are two small front pockets. I keep my phone in one and a small wallet in the other. There are two side pockets as well as a larger pocket in the back of the bag that fits a Lonely Planet. This bag is made of quality materials and fabrics that look and feel great. The strap is a shiny seat-belt material that makes it smooth and easy to slide forward to access my equipment. The strap can snap off and it becomes a padded case to safely pack equipment away.
2. The Lo & Sons Claremont Bag
This bag is the classiest of the group. It is as functional as it is pretty. It is designed as a padded DSLR camera bag. There is an insert that doesn’t have the usual Velcro on it, making it easy to adjust to right where you need it. There is a zipper pocket in the back that can hold a phone, passport or thin wallet. My favorite feature is the little SD memory card pockets. They always come in handy when I need to quickly grab a new one.
3. Crumpler Proper Roady 2.0 Camera Sling 4500 Bag
This is the largest bag of the three and the most rugged. Crumpler is an awesome brand from Australia that pays attention to every little detail. The waterproof lining is made of ripstop nylon. I like the sturdy carry handle on top and padding on the back of the bag that makes carrying it more comfortable. The inner compartment is large and can hold a second lens separated by flexible adjustable dividers. A back padded compartment can hold an iPad mini. There are also zippered pockets in the top flap and the back.
Other Brands to Consider
Although I haven’t purchased these bags, these are great companies that have high quality bags:
