The Bluebird Sunapee opened in May of 2022. Located at the base of Mount Sunapee with rooms offered at an affordable price, this is the best hotel to book in the Lake Sunapee area.
As you know, my love for Lark Hotels runs deep. They are small boutique hotels in the very best places New England has to offer. But they do come with a price tag.
Bluebird was launched by Lark Hotels as nostalgic “roadside lodges” ready to welcome weary road trippers. They have renovated outdated motels and ski lodges with all of the Lark style at a lower price tag.
The Lark brand washed away the Best Western chain motel feel and made the Bluebird Sunapee into a hip boutique place to gather.
Walking into the lobby of the Bluebird Sunapee feels like walking onto the set of the Wonder Years. I feel like I should pull up in a station wagon with wood paneling. There is an old record player in the lobby which is decorated in rug tapestries, antique snowshoes and a vintage radio.
We booked a deluxe king which had a very minimalist feel with a perfect color palette. We had a king sized bed, flat screen television and a corner nook with a table and seating. There was enough room to drop all of our ski gear without feeling like the room was cluttered.
In the bathroom, Bluebird Sunapee supplied hand soap, lotion, shampoo and conditioner by a local brand called Ursa Major. I really appreciated that they were full-size bottles, not the single use plastic ones that are terrible for the environment. It is those little details that I notice in a hotel. Supporting local and being good to the earth is the right thing to do, even if it costs them more.
There is no breakfast service at this hotel, but I would highly recommend going to Fat Belly Deli which is just five minutes down the road. The deli doesn’t have sit down service, so we took our breakfast sandwiches back to our room and ate at the table.
There is a self service coffee and tea bar in the lobby. It was so nice to come home to a warm cup of tea after skiing.
Bluebird Sunapee has a great indoor pool that was quite warm, but here is no hot tub. The downstairs also had a game room, vending machines that offered hot meals (mind blown) and a large rec room.
The rec room was perfect for teens wanting a place to hang out. There were couches, bean bag chairs, board games and a television.
We could walk to the Salt Hill Pub Shanty which is a great place for a beer after a day of skiing. They also have live music on the weekends.
If you are a snowmobile enthusiast, you will be happy to know that there is a trail that leaves straight from the parking lot and connects to a huge trail network. If my husband knew that, he would have brought his trailer and disappeared into the woods.
The Bluebird Sunapee will welcome up to two canine companions. An additional fee of $35 per dog per night will be added to your room rate.
