We JUST made it through Christmas and my house is still struggling to absorb the new toys the kids received. Just as I am coming up for air, I realize that I have a January birthday to plan for! For anyone else in this boat, I compiled a list of the best birthday gifts for boys. These toys were HUGE hits with my two boys and I only included the things that they continue to play with day after day.

The BEST Birthday gifts for boys:
1. AirFort
The AirFort is the greatest invention because you just use velcro tape (included) to attach it to a box fan. You will instantly have a giant fort. There is no floor, so kids can just lift up any edge and crawl under. I thought the inside would feel like you were getting blown away with the fan on high, but it doesn’t at all. There is a screen mesh covering so that no fingers get near the fan.
The AirFort has brought imagination and giggles to our home and the best part of all is that it packs away into a small bag when they are done!
2. RC Car
My kids each got an RC car for Christmas and they love driving them around the house and driveway. They have races and build jumps. The best part about these are that they don’t require batteries. When they run out of juice, they can be recharged with a USB cable.
3. Nintendo Switch
The Nintendo Switch has become the favorite way to spend free time in our house. So much fun, we had to set limits early on because they would easily play video games all day long. The boys started with a Nintendo DS, which was great for traveling. But we wanted to be able to play games together.
The Nintendo Switch can be played by one person in the handheld way, but then you can pop it into a devise that “switches” the game onto the television where they can play with up to four players. The Switch has so many great game options for younger boys.
Our favorite Nintendo Switch games:
- Minecraft
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening
- Luigi’s Mansion
- Mario Kart
- Super Smash Bros.
4. Magnatiles
Magnatiles have been a family favorite for years. In fact, I would say that these are the most used toy we have ever owned. They can use their imagination to build castles and towers. Budding engineers can see what structures will hold and which ones will collapse. They are perfect for all ages.
5. Kids Alexa
The kids Alexa is pretty awesome. Kids can play loads of kid-friendly content. They can play music, listen to stories and call approved friends and family. What really sold me on the kids Alexa is that I can “drop-in” from the Alexa in the kitchen. It works almost like an intercom system so I can tell them it’s time to get up or time to come downstairs for dinner. They have been falling asleep listening to Alexa read them their favorite Minecraft audio book.
6. Dragamonz
This ended up being a favorite new toy. The package includes dragon eggs which they have to break open. Once they hatch out baby dragons, they are used for a game. There are also trading cards that go along with them.
7. Science Kit
My kids LOVE being scientists and making potions. This is one of those toys that kids don’t even notice that they are learning because they are having fun. These STEM projects are great for building an early interest in science.
8. Walkie Talkies
These are so much fun for kids. They can use them to play spy games or hide and seek around the yard but they are also great for traveling. We can keep in touch with friends in the next car or stay in touch if they are playing with kids in the neighborhood. These ones even have an integrated flashlight.
9. Art Kit
Everything a child would need for creating art in an easy to carry case. They carry this around the house or on trips all the time. I like how everything is laid out so they can see all of their supplies and easily find what they need.
10. Happy Birthday to You! by Dr.Seuss
Books are always a good choice and this Dr. Seuss classic is no exception. Write something nice in the cover and it will become a keepsake for years to come.
