Birdling Bag: The Ultimate Weekender Bag
I have been on the hunt for the perfect Weekender bag and I believe my quest has finally come to an end. The Birdling Bag company makes beautiful travel bags out of a durable canvas material. They certainly look good, but could they withstand the rigors of a road trip with three kids and a dog?
We put this bag to the test…
I was on the lookout for a bag that was perfectly sized—not too big, but also not a struggle to zip shut. Organization was key, yet I desired simplicity. Plus, I wanted a bag that was rugged yet stylish. The Birdling Weekender bag ticked all of the boxes.
This Birdling bag has three interior compartments for organization. There is a large compartment in the middle which is where I put my clothes. Then there is a smaller compartment on each side. I usually use one side for my toiletries and the other for my socks and underwear. It’s like having built in packing cubes.
I like a bag with some structure. While I loved how the canvas material looked, I was concerned it would just flop over. I was relieved that it stood like a soldier at attention even when empty. The interior dividers actually help the bag hold it’s shape. The bag is still soft and pliable enough to get shoved into a small space in the trunk.
The top of the bag has a large flap opening. I love that when I open it up, I can see everything in the bag. The zipper closure keeps all of my belongings secured. I had tried out an open-top bag without thinking about it tipping with every turn of the car. I would basically have to repack when I reached my destination.
The Birdling Weekender has a pocket on the front of the bag which I use for my phone charger. I always know where it is and it’s easy to grab. There is also an exterior pocket on each side of the bag as well as inside of the top flap. These pockets are perfect for items you need to access quickly, like boarding passes or snacks.
Despite its ample size, the Birdling Weekender bag is incredibly easy to carry. It features comfortable handles and a detachable, padded shoulder strap that can be adjusted to suit your height. The weight distribution is excellent, and even when fully packed, it doesn’t feel cumbersome.
Sometimes I will find a well structured bag but wonder how they chose the color scheme. Does anyone want a bag that looks like it was made out out of my Grannie’s old quilt?
Birdling bags have the most beautiful soft colors that are pleasing to the eye. I went with the color Slate and it is a bluish grey that reminds me of the ocean. The Weekender is the largest of the travel bags in the Birdling line. It’s little cousin, the Overnighter, is a tad smaller and has two compartments instead of three. Both bags have a luggage sleeve to easily slide over the handle of a rolling suitcase. They are both within the dimensions of a TSA approved carry-on bag size.
The Adventure Weekender
If you need something a bit more rugged, Birdling just came out with an Adventure Weekender which is the same great bag in a water-resistant material and cheaper price point. The Overnighter can also be ordered in the water resistant material and it looks like the perfect bag for kids.
Birdling also emphasizes sustainability. The Weekender Bag is made with eco-friendly materials, and the company is committed to ethical manufacturing practices. For the environmentally conscious traveler, this is a significant plus.
Birdling Bags continue to come out with the best bags for busy parents. The Daytripper, which I have my eye on next, is equipped with a zippered mesh bottom to shake out sand, crumbs, and dirt. It comes with a matching insulated pouch to keep your snacks cool on the go. I feel so seen.
