Located just two hours south of Savannah, this was the last stop on our Southeast road trip. Whether you’re a history buff, nature enthusiast, or foodie, this island offers something for everyone. Here’s a curated list of must-visit attractions to make the most of your Amelia Island adventure.
The Top 10 Amelia Island Attractions:
1. Fort Clinch State Park
Start your journey with a step back in time at Fort Clinch State Park. This well-preserved 19th-century fort offers guided tours, reenactments, and breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. History comes alive as you explore the ramparts and learn about the fort’s role in protecting the region during the Civil War.

2. Search for Shark Teeth on the Beach
Amelia Island is renowned for its abundance of shark teeth scattered along its sandy shores. Spend a peaceful morning combing the beaches—especially near the northern tip—where collectors often discover fossilized treasures dating back millions of years. My kids LOVED this activity and we left with a pocketful of treasure.
3. Explore Historic Downtown Amelia Island
Wander through the picturesque streets of historic downtown Amelia Island, where Victorian architecture and charming boutiques await. Explore local art galleries, grab a scoop of homemade ice cream, and browse artisan shops in this vibrant part of Fernandina Beach.

4. Horseback Riding on the Beach
One of the most unforgettable Amelia Island attractions is horseback riding on the beach. Guided tours offer a magical experience as you walk along the shoreline with the waves at your feet and the sun setting over the dunes. This was my daughter’s favorite activity of our whole trip. We highly recommend the company we used, Amelia Island Horseback Riding. The staff (including the 4-legged ones) were all wonderful.

5. Beach Day at Fernandina Beach
No trip is complete without a beach day at Fernandina Beach. With soft sand, calm surf, and plenty of space to spread out, it’s ideal for families, couples, and solo travelers looking to relax or build sandcastles with the kids. We loved how there were shady playgrounds and bathrooms along the beach.
6. Dining at Salt Life Food Shack
After a day of exploration, satisfy your appetite at Salt Life Food Shack, known for its laid-back atmosphere and fresh coastal flavors. Indulge in fish tacos, sushi rolls, and signature cocktails while soaking up ocean breezes and good vibes. I highly recommend sitting upstairs. On a nice day, you can see 10 miles out to sea.

7. Visit the Amelia Island Lighthouse
As one of the oldest lighthouses in Florida, the Amelia Island Lighthouse is a must-see. While the interior is only open a few times a month for tours, you can admire this historic beacon and learn about its legacy from the nearby overlook.
8. Kayaking in Egans Creek
Get out on the water and explore the island’s natural beauty by kayaking through Egans Creek. Paddle past salt marshes, spot wading birds, and enjoy a tranquil escape just minutes from downtown.
9. Discover the Amelia Island Museum of History
Dive deeper into local lore at the Amelia Island Museum of History, located in the old Nassau County jail. Learn about pirates, Spanish explorers, and the island’s unique history as the only U.S. territory to fly eight different flags.
10. Take a Sunset Cruise with Amelia River Cruises
Cap off your day with a sunset cruise along the Amelia River. These guided boat tours offer front-row seats to incredible views of Cumberland Island’s wild horses, historic sites, and—if you’re lucky—playful dolphins dancing in the water.
